A winner and some Dwell quilts!

Today we have another winner! During Week 7 of our quilt along we had wonderful projects with Dwell (those cute houses) pattern from the book Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley. I hope my quilt along fellows don't mind but I just couldn't resist so I'm posting some of them here! All of them are so creative with all kinds of prints and some stunning quilting styles.

Just take a minute and visit  their gallery on Flickr... don't blame if you spend more time there than you planned. ;-)

So, the winner this week is... Jennifer! Love this cute pillow and all the quilts you've done so far during the quilt along. You're so talented! Congratulations!

Dwell quilt top

Hi everyone! Well, I didn't want start this post explaining why I didn't quilt my top yet...
But here it's a confession: I'm a  bit scared!  Did you see the gorgeous quilting Angela Walters did on Camille's quilt top in the book Simply Retro? The quilt has lot of swirls on the white area and she used different styles on the houses and even for each part of the houses.

So, it'll certainly take my weekend to quilt this top :-/ Ok, I'm gonna have some fun too ;-)

,

I'm very happy with the colors and fabrics in this quilt. Most of the fabrics are from previous quilts and some of them I had just enough for some parts of the houses. Playing with I have is always fun ;-)

You've until next Monday to add a link to your finished quilt top, completed quilt or any other project you decided to make using Dwell pattern from the book Simply Retro. I saw some cute pillows on Flickr group made by only one block and it's just the right size and perfect as a gift.

I also added the link for my Dwell top on Crazy Mom quilts, Amanda's blog. Every Friday she has a post called Finish it up Friday. It has been an extra motivation to me, so I'll have something to show with some other hundreds of fellow bloggers! Try it too!

Dwell blocks - Simply retro quilt along

Hello friends! I'm just trilled about how my blocks (Week 7) are turning out... I hope I'll have this quilt completed until Friday. It's better work with deadlines, don't you think? I've realized that it works very well for my kind of last minute personality...

The blocks are very easy to put together. The only thing I noticed is that the fabrics are stretching a lot after piecing,  so squaring each block up to 9x12" it's really necessary.
I also saw some adorable houses on pillow and quilts on Flickr group
Let's quilt along (check the prizes here)!

Playground quilt and two winners!

I'm gonna be very short with my post today, but I'm gonna reveal two names for the latest giveaways that ran on the blog! One winner is for Week 6 of our quilt along (Playground project) and another winner is for the Readers Appreciation giveaway!

Before I say the names... here it's my Playground quilt. Oh, gosh , how I'm late this week. Even posting the pictures with some delay I did manage to achieve my goal that was finishing this quilt on Monday. I did it! ;-)

I bought this chevron (for the back of the quilt) some weeks ago at Joann fabrics. I wish I'd have bolts of it ;)

The main fabrics in this quilt are from the collection called Flirt by Sandy Gervais for Moda. One Flirt charm pack  and some polka dots, solids and chevrons from my stash, that's it!

I keep using Pellon Nature's Touch batting. I strongly recommend it!

Like I did in my Baby Love quilt, I quilted Playground with curved lines, quick and cute looking!

The winners are:

Kristin (Gooba Designs) and Debbie (debbiequilter)! Please contact me!
Kristin your quilt is stunning! And big! Congratulations for taking the challenge!

I wish a wonderful week for you all, thank you for participating!

Simply Retro Quilt Along - Week 8 Adorn project

You have fifteen days to add a link with a picture of any Adorn project you've finished. For projects with Dwell pattern (the project with the houses - Week 7) you have until next Sunday August 25th to do that. Usually I open the link two weeks before the end for the entries. But, last week was so crazy that I thought would be OK doing that today for both projects. If you're confused about the schedule for the current and upcoming projects click here and check the dates.

Adorn is a big star made by many stripes. It's your chance to play with your favorite bits of fabrics and make a beautiful scrappy star. It also would be great to make a pillow or like Camille did in the book, a wall hanging quilt from this pattern. Can you imagine this star made with Christmas prints? It'd be perfect for decorating your living room for Christmas time.

Our sponsors this week are The Quilted Castle (Visit this wonderful online fabric store and find a Blow out running right now! Fabrics for 6.99 a yard and under!!) and Aurifil!

You could win $20 gift certificate from The Quilted Castle and one pack with five Aurifil spools of threads.

Please leave a link to your finished project from the eighth pattern called "Adorn" from the book Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley. It can be any project like a pillow, table runner, wall hanging or even a quilt top or a completed quilt from any size from the pattern. But, remember, only projects from Adorn pattern at this time! Entries will be accepted from August 19nd 12:05pm to September 2nd 11:55pm.

You'll be participating in the giveaway after you leave your link using the button "Add your link". You could win $20 gift certificate from The Quilted Castle  plus one pack with five Aurifil spools! Only one winner will be randomly selected for the prizes! Remember to add your picture to the Flickr group

Bibs (quilt-as-you-go technique)

These bibs are some of the projects I had to finish (even being soooo busy lately) just to not call them "UFOS" anymore ;-) Actually I just needed to place the closing buttons in one of them (for so little we put things aside...). The pattern came out of one bib I had (from Macy's) but, I had to make some modifications on the way.

As you can see I used quilt-as-you go technique. It's just a relaxing and fun technique in my opinion. It's also interesting how this technique is getting so popular lately. It seems that we can always expect something beautiful will come out of little pieces of scraps quilted with straight lines in opposite directions.

It definitively takes a lot of time and patience to place the binding on those curves...  so, it's not my favorite option, but it does look cute.

Have you tried quilt-as-you-go technique before? You should!

And don't miss out the final hours of the  Readers appreciation giveaway! Try a chance to win a Quiltermaker's Magazine 100 Blocks plus four mini charm packs!

Playground blocks

Hello! Hope you all are having a great week so far! Here are some of my blocks for the next quilt called Playground for our quilting along. I hope you are working on your project too! Looking for the Week 6 to add your link? Just go here!

So, I'm working with Flirt by Sandy Gervais for Moda. Again, I decided to use only one charm pack for this baby quilt. ...grabbed some solids and polka dots and I thought it was all I needed to get started!

It's so interesting how sometimes I have no idea how my blocks are going to look like when I choose the fabrics to make them. As my daughter usually says: ta-dah! Something nice comes out from what was only an idea!

I sorted some of the fabrics out from those you see in the picture. So, I'm not going to use all the reds and polka dots. But, I kept the grays and blues for the blocks.

This afternoon I also had to say good bye to some of the quilts I have made during the Simply Retro quilt along! They are going to warm a baby girl that just was born and a cute boy and toddler that turned two. As you can see, baby quilts hasn't being enough lately... let's make some more!

Dapper quilt and a winner

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was quite busy, and actually I couldn't finish my quilt earlier. But, I'm glad today I'm gonna share not only my finished quilt but, also the winner of the Week 5 of our quilt along!

If you read the earlier post you know I had problems to quilt with straight lines. Sounds like a joke right? But, it's true! I couldn't stop getting wrinkles on the back.  I used the walking foot and followed many tips to get it right. Oh well, maybe next time.

I quilted with stipples all over even on the borders. I enjoy doing this style a lot. Just feel that this quilting style made my quilt look heavy. Don't you agree? Overall, I love the colors they all are "talking" so well. I'm so pleased with the chevron on the back, the color is so pleasing to look at, a very soft aqua. For the binding I used a turquoise that actually isn't on the blocks, but matched perfectly with other colors on the blocks.

And the winner is...

I'm happy to announce that Hildy (hildv) is the winner of the Simply Retro Quilt Along Week 5! Her quilt turned out great as she worked with double pinwhell in the block. The quilt also has blues and greens and it's just adorable! Please Hildy, email me! Congrats!

Readers appreciation giveaway and my almost finished quilt!

Hi readers! I've two news to give to you today: a good one and another one not that good... Let's go for the best first! My blog have had an intense traffic lately. Lots of people visiting my posts and I truly hope you all are getting some inspiration on your sewing and quilting projects seeing what I have been up too lately.
When I restarted this blog a few months ago I wasn't sure about keeping it written in my primary language, Portuguese, or if I'd do it only in English. As soon as I decided writing it in English (I still have my challenges) hundreds of people started following my blog daily, people from all around the word. Who want to write a blog and have no one to read it? I enjoy what I do so much (sewing and quilting in the first place), but I also enjoy knowing that some of you are having some fun stopping here (I hope you don't mind seeing some mistakes once a while ;-) I also have a lot of fun reading some awesome blogs from quilters, sewists and crafters!

Here it's my little "Thank you" :

The following FOUR mini charm packs plus a Quiltermaker's 100 Blocks Magazine.

Marmalade by Bonnie & Camille
Civil War Jubille by Barbara Brackman
PB&J by Basic Grey
Simply Style by V and Co.

All you have to do is:
1- Like my page on Facebook. I just created a new page and I promise my plan is sharing all the good stuff about quilting, fabrics, my projects and other friends projects.
This giveaway is open to every reader even if you are not participating in the Simply Retro quilt along. It's also for those that lives outside USA.

The other new is I couldn't finish my Dapper quilt today (so this is the bad new :-|). Actually I tried to quilt it with straight lines and I had so much trouble with tension on my machine. I ripped out some rows of stitching and had to do it again until I was too exhausted and decided to quilt it when my head will be fresh again in the morning.
So, I'll be back with my quilt soon this weekend! All I have for now is my almost finished quilt. Enjoy the giveaway (winner will be picked next Saturday, 17th) !
